No HSC, Equivalent Exams This Year

The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent exams will not be held this year, Minister of Education Dipu Moni said Wednesday.

The announcement was made at a virtual press conference on various issues related to the education sector.

The HSC and equivalent exams were scheduled to begin on 1 April, but the government was forced to postpone them on 22 March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Dipu Moni said that an alternate assessment approach will be used this time.

"The HSC results will be assessed on the basis of the results of the JSC and SSC students," she said. "The results will be ready by December."

All educational institutions were closed on 16 March to prevent the spread of coronavirus. The closure was extended until October 31, as there was no marked change in the situation.

In addition, there will be no Primary Education Completion (PEC) and its equivalent Ebtedayee exam for 2020 and students will instead be promoted to the next class by class assessment.

Dipu Moni on Sept 30 said they are making plans considering various alternatives since experts have warned about the possible second wave of coronavirus during winter.
