Eminent
educationist and former Professor of Rajshahi University Kayesh Uddin breathed
his last at his Talaimary residence in the city today at the age of 84.
He
was also the Vice-chancellor of Islamic University and Bangladesh Open University.
He
left behind his wife, two sons, two daughters and a large number of students,
academic colleagues and host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death, a RU
release said, reports BSS.
During
his long academic career in the Department of Applied Chemistry and the
Department of Biochemistry from 1968 to 2001, Prof Kayesh Uddin supervised many
PhD, M. Phil and post-graduation research papers.
Besides,
he has a remarkable number of research papers and books at home and abroad to
his credit.
Born in Gomostapur in Chapainawabganj district
in 1937, Prof Kayesh Uddin obtained B. Sc degree in Chemistry from Rajshahi
University in 1957 and M. Sc degree in Biochemistry from Dhaka University in
1959 and got PhD degree from Glasgow University in UK.
He
had also completed post-doctoral research in London Imperial College in 1974.
His
namaz-e-janaza was held at RU central Jam-e Mosque and he was laid to eternal
rest at RU graveyard.
Meanwhile,
RU Vice-chancellor Prof Golam Sabbir Sattar and Pro-VCs Prof Chowdhury Jakaria
and Prof Sultan-Ul-Islam expressed their deep condolence at the death of Prof
Kayesh Uddin and conveyed sympathy to the members of the bereaved family.
They
also prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
