BUET so far spent Tk 55 lakh on prosecuting the murder case of Bangladesh
University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) student Abrar Fahad, said
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Satya Prasad Majumder.
He
made the remarks in response to a question from reporters at his BUET office
after the Abrar Fahad murder case verdict was announced at noon on Wednesday, December
8.
Earlier, Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 sentenced 20 accused to death and five to life imprisonment in BUET student
Abrar Fahad murder case.
BUET
Vice-Chancellor said, "We have given whatever was requested from Abrar's
family." We are paying 75 thousand taka every month. They are in a financial
crisis. Therefore, after I got the responsibility of the Vice-Chancellor, from
the 1st of July, 75 thousand taka is being paid every month. In addition, we
have borne all the legal aid and legal fees and expenses incurred by the
students as witnesses, all the incidental expenses, and even the cost of coming
to Dhaka. About 55 lakh taka has been spent so far. Apart from this, what is being
given every month will be given for 12 years. If Abrar's father wants us in the
future, we will give him this support.
"We
sympathize with Abrar's parents," he said. We have cooperated with them as
much as possible from BUET and will continue to do so in the future. We have
provided them with legal and financial assistance.
In
an immediate response to the verdict, Professor Satya Prasad Majumder said that
the verdict of maximum punishment has been announced for the murder. We think
it should be implemented quickly.
