75 students can get admission to private varsities' law department

A total of 75 students can be admitted to the private university’s law department instead of 50, according to the Appellate Division order on Thursday (24 august). At the same time, the court mentioned in the order that 100 students can get admitted to the same department of the public university.

Today on Thursday a six-member Appellate Division bench led by Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique pronounced the verdict after hearing on a review petition filed by the additional students. Senior lawyer Ahsanul Karim was at the court on behalf of the students.

In the verdict, the top court fined Tk 25,000 to every student who admitted more than 50 students in the law department of private universities. The court asked to pay 80 per cent fined money to Bangladesh Bar Council and 20 per cent to the Supreme Court’s day care center.

The concerned authorities of the universities will have to pay this fined money.
