Govt Halts Admission Test Of Six Medical Colleges

The Health Minister, Dr. Samant Lal Sen, has announced the suspension of admission processes for six private medical colleges, including Uttara Aichi Medical College, Northern Medical (Dhaka and Rajshahi campuses), Shah Makhdum Medical College (Dhaka), CARE Medical College, and Nightingale Medical College.

Notably, the registrations for CARE Medical College and Nightingale Medical College in Savar have been revoked. Dr. Sen emphasized during a press briefing at the Sheikh Hasina Institute of National Burn and Plastic Surgery that these institutions do not meet the necessary standards for admitting students.

Expressing zero tolerance for irregularities, Dr. Sen highlighted the enactment of the Private Medical College Act and pledged strict measures against any form of malpractice, aiming to ensure the production of high-quality doctors.

Dr. Sen raised concerns regarding United Medical College admitting students without proper approval and stressed the importance of adhering to regulatory requirements, including BMDC approval. He emphasized that accreditation papers are not initially required for first and second-year admissions but warned of monitoring future activities closely.

Furthermore, Dr. Sen issued a warning, stating that action would be taken if BMDC approval is not obtained within two months, emphasizing that operating without BMDC approval should not recur.

Regarding available seats for the 2023-24 academic year, there are 5,380 seats in government medical colleges and 6,168 seats in private medical colleges, totaling 11,548 seats for prospective students.

Admission tests are scheduled to begin on February 9, with each incorrect answer resulting in a deduction of 0.25 marks. Additionally, students scoring below 40 marks in the entrance test will be deemed ineligible for admission.
