The Supreme Court will hear whether primary and secondary schools will be open during the month of Ramadan on Tuesday. The court has set a date for hearing the appeal on Tuesday (March 12) at 11:30 am.

When the petition made by the state against the High Court's order suspending the decision to keep schools open during Ramadan was presented yesterday for hearing, the chamber court of Justice M Enayetur Rahim sent it to the full bench of the Appellate Division without suspending it.

Attorney General AM Amin Uddin and Assistant Attorney General M Saiful Alam represented the state in the court. Senior advocate AKM Faiz appeared for the writ.

A High Court bench stayed the government's decision to keep schools open during Ramadan for two months following a public interest writ petition on Sunday. The state filed the application on Monday seeking suspension of this order.

Lawyers said the chamber court did not suspend the order of the high court. As a result, the order of the High Court is upheld. That's why school is closed on Tuesday.

Talking to the heads of several educational institutions, it is known that the teachers, students and parents of the whole country are looking towards the court. The parents want the school to be closed for the entire month of Ramadan.

In this year's class schedule, it was initially said that educational institutions will be closed during the month of Ramadan. Later, the government order announced the decision to keep primary schools open for 10 days and secondary schools for 15 days.

At the beginning of the year, the list of annual holidays was published with 30 days off in Ramadan for primary, secondary schools and colleges. On February 8, the Ministry of Education decided to keep secondary schools open for 15 days by amending the list of holidays.

After that, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education also followed the same path. However, it was decided to keep the primary school open for the first 10 days. On the other hand, the secondary and higher education department of the Ministry of Education decided to keep the colleges open from March 10 to 24.

Meanwhile, the Directorate of Madrasa Education published the calendar of holidays on February 11. It informs about Madrasa holidays from March 7 to the entire Ramadan. School-college teachers were objecting to this.

Director General of the Directorate of Secondary & Higher Education (DSHE) Professor Nehal Ahmed said that to complete the syllabus of the new curriculum, at least 185 days of classes must be taken at the secondary level. Two public exams, various types of holidays, natural calamities combine to make it difficult to get 185 working days throughout the year.

He said, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Turkey, Egypt, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Malaysia - nowhere schools are closed due to Ramadan. Why should we keep this holiday in our country?

Meanwhile, around 50,000 kindergarten schools in the country, including the capital, are open during Ramadan. This information was learned by talking to the leaders of some organizations of the owners of the kindergartens and the leaders of several organizations.

Kindergarten owners say that there is no government allocation in their institutions. They are running the institution at their own expense. Salary of teachers and employees, rent of building, everything has to be paid from income. Now they can't collect the March salary if they close the kindergarten school. It will not be able to pay teachers salary and bonus during Ramadan and Eid. For this, they want to keep the kindergarten open till March 20 to 22.
