Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel has put forth a proposal to eliminate Saturday weekends in educational institutions during the month of Ramadan, aiming to ensure sufficient holidays while maintaining academic continuity.

He made this suggestion during a discussion meeting commemorating Independence Day at the International Mother Language Institute auditorium.

Highlighting the importance of fostering a progressive education system that embraces inclusivity and rejects traditionalism, the minister addressed the controversy surrounding school openings during Ramadan. He stressed the need to counteract misinformation and propaganda, advocating for constructive dialogue.

In an effort to minimize disputes over school operations during Ramadan and to avoid potential legal and social tensions, Mohibul suggested scheduling 52 Saturdays a year for schools, thereby reducing weekend breaks. He emphasized the significance of respectful discourse on sensitive issues and expressed readiness to engage with scholars to address concerns while upholding constitutional principles and the spirit of the Liberation War.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the government remains dedicated to providing educational opportunities for all segments of society. The proposal to shorten Saturday weekends by the Ministry of Education reflects ongoing efforts to maintain the academic calendar's integrity and address the concerns raised by various stakeholders regarding school operations during Ramadan.
