The Cannes Film Festival has released a statement in reply to the new measures introduced by the French Government, which bans the gathering of more than 100 people.
"The latest restriction came from a plan (by the government) that we expect will begin implementing in April, and by then we will know if the events set for May, in Cannes and elsewhere, will be maintained," said the festival's spokesperson.
“We are working hand in hand with the mayor of Cannes and the National Film Board (CNC) to make the festival happen and, if it does, in the best possible conditions,” added the spokesperson.
The festival authorities said they were continuing to prepare for the festival hoping the epidemic will be receding by the middle of May.
