Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Taken to Hospital with COVID-19

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been taken to the hospital after a positive Covid-19 test earlier this week.

The Indian actress, a former Miss World and one of Bollywood's most famous faces, is being treated at Mumbai's Nanavati Hospital, reports ANI.

Her daughter Aaradhya has also been taken to hospital, BBC reported citing PTI agency.

Aishwarya 's husband Abhishek and his father-in-law, Amitabh Bachchan, both famous actors, have been in hospital since Saturday with the virus.

On Sunday, 77-year-old Amitabh Bachchan, a Bollywood celebrity who has gained global popularity throughout his long and prestigious career, tweeted that he had tested positive for the virus.

Another series of tweets from his son Abhishek, also a famous actor, confirmed that he, his 46-year-old wife Aishwarya and his eight-year-old daughter Aaradhya had also been tested positive.

Jaya Bachchan, also a famous actress and the wife of Amitabh Bachchan, was tested negative.

Until now, Aishwarya Rai and Aaradhya have been insulating at home.

News that the family, also identified as Bollywood royalty, had been struck by coronavirus shock waves throughout India. Thousands of fans have been praying for the family 's recovery this week.

On Friday, India reported a staggering 35,000 new cases of coronavirus infections in 24 hours, more than one million.

The country also has the third-highest number of incidents in the world , behind the United States and Brazil. The current number of fatalities is 25,602.

The western state of Maharashtra, where Mumbai is situated, is also the largest hotspot with the highest number of cases-more than 280,000-in all states.
