Nagar Baul James appeared in the lower court of Dhaka to file a
case to protect his song alleging copyright infringement. However, on the
advice of the court, he returned without filing a case.
James' lawyer Tapash Kumar filed the case in the court of
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Imrul Kayes around 11am on Sunday (September
19). James himself was present at the time. The court then returned the case
and directed James to go to the police station. He left the court premises at
around 1 pm on the advice of the judge.
James' lawyer Tapas Kumar confirmed the matter.
State Public Prosecutor Tapas Kumar Pal said, "James
has come to file a case against Banglalink under the Copyright Act. But the
court returned the case and directed to go to Gulshan police station to file
the case. The court also said that if the case is not taken to the police
station, then come to the court again to file the case.
James did not comment on the matter.
Numerous songs by James are still being used commercially by
various organizations without asking any permission to appropriate authority.
