Imrul Hasan, a lawyer, has
filed a case against the 'Meghdal' band for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.
He filed the case against the members of the band in the Dhaka Metropolitan
Court on October 28.
On Sunday (October 31), Dhaka
Metropolitan Magistrate Moinul Islam handed over the case to the Police Bureau
of Investigation (PBI). Following the investigation, it has been directed to submit
the report on December 1.
The accused in the case are
Meghdal vocalist Shibu Kumar Shil, Mezba-ur-Rahman Sumon, guitarist-vocalist
Rashid Sharif Shoaib, bass guitarist MG Kibaria, drummer Amjad Hossain,
keyboardist Tanvir Dawood Rony, and flutist Sourav Sarkar.
The lawsuit alleges that
Meghdal's song 'Om' misrepresented the sound of 'Labbaik Allahumma Labbaik'.
The plaintiff in the case claimed that while staying at home on October 26, at
around 7 am, he saw on YouTube the melody of the song 'Labbaik Allahumma
Labbaik' being played in a distorted tone with a banned musical instrument and
a modern musical instrument.
This prayer is pure and holy
to every Muslim. These prayers are usually recited with humility and reverence
during Hajj. The song was performed in front of the sculpture at the TSC and
the violence was written in the form of a signboard on the back. It is also
seen in the song that part of the holy Kalima of the Muslims is also recited to
the tune of the song.
Lawyer Imrul Hasan has filed
a case alleging that the song hurt his religious feelings. However, before the
case, he tried to contact Meghdal but failed.
