Actor Ferdous Ahmed, famous for the Bengali movie `Hathath Bristi’, has bought the nomination paper of the Awami League to run for the by-election of the Dhaka-17 constituency, which became vacant due to the death of the famous actor Akbar Hossain Pathan, aka Farooque.
Last Monday (April 5), he collected the party form from the
political office of Awami League President Sheikh Hasina in Dhanmondi.
Earlier, on May 15, actor Farooque died while undergoing
treatment at Singapore's Mount Elizabeth Hospital. The seat fell vacant on his
death.
Since then, some celebrities have expressed their interest to
be candidates for the election in that seat. The name of actor Ferdous has been
added to that list. He bought the nomination form of the Awami League to contest in
the by-election.
Though Ferdous is not directly involved in politics, he has
been participating in various programs under the banner of the ruling Awami
League for the past few years. He has been living in the Banani DOHS area for a
long time.
Dhaka-17 parliamentary seat consists of Gulshan, Banani, and
Cantonment areas. Voting will be held in the by-election of this seat on July
17.
