Indian Actress Sentenced to 6 Months in Jail

In connection with a protracted case, a Chennai court condemned Jayaprada to 6 months in jail. She also received a Rs 5,000 fine for the incident.

Her business partners Ram Kumar and Raja Babu were also found guilty in the case along with the actress.

A cinema theater was once owned and operated by Jaya Prada and her business partners in Chennai. The movie theater, however, was shut down a few years ago owing to losses. The workers at the movie theaters sued Jaya Prada for failing to reimburse the ESI money deducted from their wages.

The actor reportedly admitted the situation and promised to settle any unpaid bills owing to the theater staff. She also requested that the case be dropped. The court, however, turned down her appeal. 

In the Telugu and Hindi cinema industries in the late '70s and early '80s, Jaya Prada was recognized as one of the most recognizable and important performers. Additionally, she was thought to be the most gorgeous actress of her day. 

At the height of her fame, she left the film industry and entered politics, where she has remained active ever since. Jaya Prada is a Bhartiya Janata Party supporter.
