Tareque Masud, Mishuk Munier’s 12th Death Anniv Today

Internationally renowned director Tareque Masud and cinematographer and former ATN News CEO Mishuk Munier both passed away on this day twelve years ago.

To commemorate the occasion, the Tareque Masud Memorial Trust and the Moviyana Film Society of Bangladesh have organized a lecture in his honor at the National Theatre Hall of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy at 6:00 PM today.

The "memorial lecture" will take place following the showing of Tareque Masud's documentary "Adamsurat." Based on the life and works of the illustrious artist SM Sultan, "Adamsurat"  

Independent filmmaker Tareque Masud also worked as a producer, screenwriter, and songwriter. With his films "Muktir Gaan" (1995) and "Matir Moina" (2002), he first experienced commercial success. 

He was honored with the Ekushey Padak in 2012. Additionally, he received three international honors for "Matir Moina" in the Directors' Fortnight segment outside of competition at the "2002 Cannes Film Festival," including the "International Critics' FIPRESCI Prize."

While Mishuk Munier, real name Shafique Munier, worked as a television journalist and media expert. He was one of Professor Munier Chowdhury's three slain sons, who also had two other sons. Mishuk was the president and chief editor of the satellite news station ATN News.

On August 13, 2011, Tareque and Mishuk Munier were returning to Dhaka from Manikganj after visiting a filming site when they tragically lost their lives along with three other people in a car accident on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Ghior Upazila. A microbus transporting the two celebrities collided with a bus on the highway, causing the disaster.
