Amber Heard, who recently endured a high-profile defamation lawsuit from her former spouse Johnny Depp, is preparing for her return to the entertainment industry with the unveiling of the initial trailer for "In the Fire," a paranormal thriller set in the 1890s.

The preview, helmed by director Conor Allyn, introduces Heard in the role of Grace Burnham, a psychiatrist stationed on a remote Colombian plantation during the 1890s. Her responsibility is to address a troubled young boy who exhibits unexplained supernatural abilities. As she embarks on the treatment process, Burnham inadvertently sparks a clash between the realms of science and religion. The local priest insists that the boy is possessed by the devil, using this belief as a scapegoat for the village's troubles.

In one scene from the trailer, Burnham expresses to the young boy, portrayed by Lorenzo McGovern Zaini, "The people in this community are frightened. They're searching for something to blame for that fear. And it appears to be you."

Amber Heard concluded filming for "In the Fire" in March 2022, a few months prior to Johnny Depp's $15 million defamation victory against her in a Virginia court. Depp had initiated legal action against Heard in response to her 2018 op-ed in The Washington Post, where she identified herself as a survivor of domestic abuse. Depp also received partial vindication regarding allegations of defaming Heard through statements made by his legal team.

Heard is now looking to "In the Fire" as her opportunity to make a comeback in Hollywood and the cinematic world following her legal setback.

The film, described as an exploration of the extraordinary power of love, unfolds at the turn of the 20th century and features Heard portraying a strong-willed and self-reliant woman. Conor Allyn directed the movie based on a screenplay he co-authored with Pascal Borno and Silvio Muraglia. "In the Fire" is scheduled for release by Saban Films in theaters, digital platforms, and on-demand services on October 13.

Amber Heard also has a role in the forthcoming "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom," directed by James Wan, with Jason Momoa reprising his role as the titular hero. This highly anticipated sequel to 2018's "Aquaman," which stands as the highest-grossing DC film to date with a box office revenue of $1.148 billion, is set for release on December 20.
