Renowned Rabindra Sangeet singer Sadi Mohammad passed away on Wednesday evening at the age of 70, as confirmed by renowned dancer Shamim Ara Nipa.

His demise occurred around 7:30 pm, and his body is currently at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.

Nipa said that he may have taken his own life, citing the mental anguish he experienced since his mother's passing, which deeply affected him.

His mother, Jebunnesha Salim Ullah, aged 96, passed away on July 8, 2023. Sadi Mohammad, who held bachelor's and master's degrees in Rabindra Sangeet from Visva-Bharati University, had a notable career in music, releasing albums such as "Amakey Khujey Pabey Bhorer Shishirey" in 2007, "Srabon Akashey" in 2009, and "Sharthok Janom Amar" in 2012.

He also served as the director of the organization Rabi Raag. Sadi Mohammad, who hailed from a family deeply rooted in the arts, had nine siblings, including Shameem Mohammad and the renowned dancer Shibli Mohammad.

He was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award by Channel I in 2017 and received the Rabindra Award from Bangla Academy in 2025.

Sadi Mohammad's father, Salimullah, lost his life during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971, and a road in the capital's Mohammadpur area was named after him. His passing has left a somber impact on the cultural landscape of the country.
