Three New Upazilas in Madaripur, Cox’s Bazar And Sunamganj

The government has decided to create three additional upazilas in the same number of districts, bringing the total number of upazilas in Bangladesh to 495.

Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam said on Monday that they are Dasar in Madaripur district, Eidgaon in Cox's Bazar, and Madhyanagar in Sunamganj.

The decision came at a meeting of the National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reorganization (NICAR).

The name of Dakshin Sunamganj upazila has been changed to Shantiganj, he said while briefing the media after the weekly Cabinet meeting.

During the meeting, the border demarcation of the Dohar municipality in Dhaka was amended, according to Cabinet Secretary Islam.

He also mentioned that Sylhet's Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) has been incorporated in the city corporation's jurisdiction.
