Director-General of Directorate General of Health Services Prof Dr Abul Kalam Azad has submitted his resignation letter to the authorities concerned, says media report.

Health Secretary Abdul Mannan confirmed the mater that his resignation letter has been submitted to the Public Administration Ministry.

Abul Kalam Azad resigned after the scam of Regent Hospital on various charges, including giving fake reports about the identification of coronavirus, blaming each other on the ministry and the directorate.

The Ministry of Health and the Department of Health became embroiled in a heated debate over how the hospital was approved for coronavirus testing and treatment on whose orders it was shut down after a RAB raid on the Regent Hospital in Dhaka on July 8.

The signing ceremony of the agreement with Regent Hospital was attended by Health Minister Zahid Malek and senior officials including the Director-General of the Health Department Prof Abul Kalam Azad.

Later, when the Regent Hospital was closed due to irregularities, the minister said that he went there at the invitation of the department.

The director-general, on the other hand, claimed that they had signed the agreement on the instructions of higher authorities.
