More than half of the coronavirus patients admitted to
various hospitals in the country are rural residents, said Prof ABM Khurshid
Alam, Director General of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
He told reporters after a meeting at the DGHS on Monday
(June 5th) morning.
The Director-General said, "We have held virtual
meetings with the officials of 45 Upazila Health Complexes." They said
that most of the patients are coming from the villages and they are being
admitted in critical condition. Even after being infected, many people do not
know about Covid-19. They think it is a normal flu.
“Now is the rainy season,” he said. Many people are infected
with coronavirus but are considered to be suffering from common cold fever or
cough. Not getting tested or taking the doctor's advice.
He further said that I have advised the field health workers
to do miking in the villages and visit house to house to look for the patients.
Commenting on the new thinking on vaccination age, Khurshid Alam said, "The age limit for vaccinators is now 40 years. We have thought of gradually reducing this age limit. The age bar has been proposed to be 35 years. If the age limit is reduced, more people will be vaccinated."
