Health and family welfare minister Zahid Maleque said the
village dwellers were not aware of the coronavirus, adding that even though they got infected, they thought they were having normal flu and cough.
He expressed this concern at a virtual discussion meeting
organized by the Directorate General of Family Planning on the occasion of
World Population Day on Sunday (July 11) at noon.
Zahid Maleque said that the patients are coming to the
hospital only when their conditions are being critical, but till then the
doctors have nothing to do. At one point, when the people in the village had
difficulty breathing, they rushed to the hospital. But then about 70 percent of
their lungs are affected. Their oxygen has dropped to 70 to 80 percent, but
then it is no longer possible to save him with treatment.
"We have decided to expand the new coronavirus hospital
in areas where there are more patients," he said. Besides, we are trying
to increase the number of beds in the existing hospitals.
