The Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) has so far approved the production of 200 units of a device called 'OxyJet' made by BUET to give oxygen to patients infected with the Coronavirus.
Mohammad Salauddin, a spokesman for the DGDA, and Dr Taufiq Hasan, a BUET teacher who invented the device, told the media on Wednesday (July 28th).
Dr Hasan said,
"We have recently received a nod from the DGDA that it has approved the
production of 200 OxyJet devices. We hope that this will help the patients who suffer
from breathing-shortness due to Covid-19.
Dr Taufiq Hasan, an
assistant professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at BUET, developed
a device called 'OxyJet'. With this, it is possible to give up to 60 liters of
high flow oxygen in normal beds in a hospital, they said.
While the cost for a
high flow nasal cannula is Tk 2 lakh to Tk 5 lakh, the device invented by BUET
will cost only Tk 20,000-25,000.
