After recovering from Covid infection in Chattogram, a 60-year-old woman has developed the uncommon mucormycosis (black fungus).

The presence of black fungus was confirmed on Wednesday, according to Chattogram Medical College Hospital officials.

Ferdous Begum, a homemaker from Chattogram's Patia Upazila, has been sick with a fever since June 25. She tested positive for Covid-19 on July 3rd.

After her Covid test came out negative on July 13, she was admitted to the CMCH on July 24 by her relatives due to a host of medical difficulties.

Due to a scarcity of crucial medicine, her treatment is being disturbed.

Brigadier General SM Humayun Kabir, the hospital's director, said doctors would see the woman again on Thursday before determining whether or not to send her to Dhaka.

On May 25, Bangladesh confirmed the discovery of the first two cases of black fungus in patients who had recovered from Covid-19 at the capital's Birdem General Hospital.

Mucormycosis, often known as black fungus, is an uncommon ailment with a 50 percent fatality rate. The fungus can harm the eyes, nose, face, lungs, and even the brain in severe cases.
