23 Lakh People to Get Diarrhoea Vaccine

The diarrhoea outbreak in the country is rapidly turning grimmer. International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b) hospital and other hospitals are seeing a massive surge in patients suffering from infectious diseases.

The government has decided to give vaccine to 23 lakh people in the capital to combat diarrhoea. The vaccine will be given to people of all ages starting from one year except for pregnant women.

Professor Dr. Nazmul Islam, director of disease control of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), said this at a press briefing on Wednesday.

Professor Dr. Nazmul Islam said the first dose of the two-dose vaccination will be given in May. The second dose will be given in June.

He said that in the first phase, the vaccination programme will be conducted in five areas of the capital- Jatrabari, Dakshinkhan, Mirpur, Mohammadpur and Sabujbagh.
