Global Covid-19 Cases Top 593 Million

The overall number of Covid cases has now surged past 593 million amid a rise in new infections in parts of the world.

According to the latest global data, the total case count mounted to 593,344,122 and the death toll reached 6,448,809 on Friday morning.

The US has recorded 94,479,779 cases so far and 1,061,346 people have died from the virus in the country, the data shows.

India recorded 16,561 new cases of Covid-19 in 24 hours till Thursday morning, taking the total tally to 44,223,557, according to data from the country's health ministry.

With the fresh cases, India's active caseload currently stands at 123,535. The country logged 49 more Covid-related deaths, bringing the overall toll to 526,826 since the beginning of the pandemic, the ministry said.

Covid in Bangladesh

Bangladesh recorded another Covid-linked death with 214 fresh cases in 24 hours till Thursday morning.

With the latest numbers, the total fatalities reached 29,310 and the caseload 2,008,282, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The daily case positivity rate declined to 4.45 percent from Wednesday's 5.09 percent as 4,806 samples were tested.

The deceased was a man from Sylhet division.

The mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.46 percent. The recovery rate rose to 07.10 percent from Wednesday's 97.09 percent.

In July, Bangladesh reported 142 Covid-linked deaths and 31,422 cases, the highest death toll and cases in the last five months since March this year, according to DGHS.
