Six months after getting the Covid-19 booster dose, antibodies often begin to decrease, according to a recent study by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
The study also found that individuals with a history of Covid-19 have increased antibody levels.
BSMMU Vice-Chancellor Sharfuddin Ahmed unveiled the findings during a media call on Monday.
He said that one month after the first and second doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, 98% of 223 people had antibodies.
There were higher numbers of antibodies in those who had previously contracted Covid-19.
The majority of the time, the antibody levels dropped after 6 months of immunization, he continued.
The average antibody level decreased from 6,792AU/mL to 3,963AU/mL in 73% of the 30 vaccinated individuals, he added.
The VC said that the bodies of the recipients with two vaccine doses did not contain enough antibodies.
After taking the booster for a month, all individuals developed antibodies, and almost all of them recovered to antibody levels of 20,878AU/mL.
All subjects had antibodies six months after getting the booster, although nearly all had seen their levels drop to a mean of 10,675.7AU/mL.
Those with a history of Covid-19 had higher antibody levels among them, the VC concluded.
