Dengue Death Record Hits New Highest In Just 26 Days

In just 26 days into September, the number of fatalities linked to dengue fever has exceeded the total death count recorded in the entire month of August. As of now, September has witnessed a grim total of 350 deaths, surpassing August's unfortunate toll of 342 fatalities, and with four days yet to go in the month.

The dengue-related death toll surged to 943 as the country reported an additional 15 deaths in the past 24 hours, as of Tuesday morning. According to data from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), a total of 193,881 dengue patients have been admitted to hospitals this year. Of these new cases, 774 were reported within Dhaka city, while 2,349 cases originated from various regions across the country.

Up to this point, 182,782 dengue patients have been discharged from hospitals nationwide in the current year. Presently, the DGHS data reveals that 10,156 dengue patients, including 3,581 in Dhaka, are undergoing treatment in hospitals throughout the country. It's noteworthy that Dhaka and Chattogram divisions have recorded the highest number of dengue cases.

For context, in 2022, the country documented 281 dengue-related deaths, and in 2019, the toll stood at 179 deaths. Furthermore, DGHS data from the previous year indicates 62,423 reported dengue cases and 61,971 recoveries.
