New Covid-19 Sub-Variant Detected In Bangladesh

The sub-variant 'JN.1' of the Coronavirus has been detected in Bangladesh. Even after taking two doses of the vaccine, anyone can be infected with this sub-variant, said the Vice-Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).

The latest genome sequencing research results of the coronavirus were published at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University this morning (Tuesday, February 20).

BSMMU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Sharfuddin Ahmed said, the World Health Organization has announced a new sub-variant 'JN.1' at the beginning of the year. BSMMU has been conducting genome sequencing of COVID-infected patients from the third week of January to the first week of February. In the study, the new sub-variant was identified in the body of three patients.

The Vice-Chancellor further said that one of the infected persons had come from outside the country. The symptoms of this variant are fever, cold, sore throat, headache, and mild cough. Although the symptoms are mild, he requested to get tested for coronavirus if there is a fever or a cough.
