Births

Frank Shuman — an American inventor and engineer — was born on this day in 1862. He is well known as the pioneer of solar energy.

Jyotirmoyee Devi – an Indian writer — was born on this day in 1894. She is famous for his sharp socio-observant short stories.

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose — an Indian nationalist — was born on this day 1897. He was a legendary leader of India's independence war.

Deaths

On this day in 1859, Ishwar Chandra Gupta — a Bengali poet — died. Through his hands, Bangla poetry walked the path of modernity, passing the boundaries of the middle ages.

On this day in 1909, Nabinchandra Sen — a noted poet of Bengali literature — died. Well-known for his poetry, Nabinchandra also wrote some of the most discussed prose of his era.

On this day in 1989, Salvador Dalí — a Spanish painter — died. He is mostly known for his magical surrealistic paintings.

On this day in 2018, Nicanor Parra— a Chilean poet — died. He was considered an influential poet in Chile and throughout Latin America.
