US Black Rights Movement activist Malcolm X

Many events happen in our everyday life. Some of those turn out to be significant whereas some are not. We want to remind our readers of those events that came to be historical as time reels.

Events

1952 — Police opened fire on a procession of students for the Bengali Mother Language Movement. Barkat, Salam, Rafiq, and Jabbar were martyred.

2000 — For the first time ever, 'International Mother Language Day' was celebrated globally.

Births

1930 — Bengali songwriter Gobinda Halder was born. 

1961 — Nobel-winning American-born Bengali economist Abhijit Banerjee was born.

Deaths

1677 — Dutch philosopher Baruch Spinoza died.

1965 — US Black Rights Movement activist Malcolm X was shot dead.

1968 — Australian Nobel Laureate biologist Howard Florey died.
