What Happened on February 24th

Many events happen in our everyday life. Some of those turn out to be significant whereas some are not. We want to remind our readers of those events that came to be historical as time reels.

Events

1952 — The first Shaheed Minar was built in Dhaka to commemorate the language movement. It was destroyed by the police a few days later.

1972 — Bangladesh was recognized by the Philippines.

1975 — Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman founded "Bakshal."

2008 — Fidel Castro retired from Cuba's presidency.

Births

1955 —  Steve Jobs — the founder of ´Apple´  was born.

1956 —  Judith Butler — and American philosopher, theorist, and author was born.

Deaths

1666 — Nicholas Lanier — an English composer and painter died.

1910 — Osman Hamdi Bey — an Ottoman administrator, intellectual and art expert died.

1993 — Bobby Moore — an English football player died.

1999 — Ahmed Sharif — a Bengali literature researcher and professor died.

2016 — Abul Kalam Mohammed Zakaria — a Bangladeshi archaeologist, researcher, and author died.
