1991 — Kuwait City got liberated by Gulf War Allies when Iraq President Saddam Hussein ordered withdrawal by Iraq Troops from the city.

Births

1802 — Victor Hugo — a French poet, novelist, and dramatist of the Romantic movement who is considered to be one of the greatest and best-known French writers was born.

1908 — Bengali writer Leela Majumdar was born.

1936 — Nur Mohammad Sheikh, a martyr freedom fighter was born.

Deaths

1980 — Founder of the All India Women's Education Council and one of the leading figures in the Indian independence movement Shyam Mohini Devi died.

1985 — Renowned Bengali literary and journalist Santosh Kumar Ghosh died.
