What Happened on February 28th

Many events happen in our everyday life. Some of those turn out to be significant whereas some are not. We want to remind our readers of those events that came to be historical as time reels.

Events

1974 — The first-ever census of Bangladesh was completed.

1988 — Iraqi invader Saddam's troops being defeated against Iran's Mujahideen in various battlefields, threw missiles at the fourth stage in residential areas of Iran's cities, including the capital Tehran.

Births

1844 — Bengali musician, poet, hair designer, playwright, novelist, theatre director, and actor “Girish Chandra Ghosh” was born. He was largely responsible for the golden age of Bengali theatre.

1931 — Renowned journalist “A. B. M. Musa” was born. He was awarded Ekushey Padak for journalism in 1999 by the Government of Bangladesh.

1950 — Bangladeshi singer-songwriter, record producer, freedom fighter and lead singer for the rock band ‘Uchcharon’ “Azam Khan” was born. He is considered to be one of the greatest artists in the history of Bangladeshi popular music.

Deaths

1916 — American-British author Henry James died. He is regarded as a key transitional figure between literary realism and literary modernism and considered by many to be among the greatest novelists in the English language.

1970 — Literary critic “Srikumar Bandyopadhyay” died.

Day

“Diabetes Awareness Day” is being observed today.
