The body of Mohammad Hadisur Rahman - the third engineer of
MV Banglar Samriddhi, who was killed in a rocket attack on the port of Alvia,
Ukraine - is being taken to Romania from Ukraine.
Hadisur's body will be taken to the Romanian capital
Bucharest via Moldova on Thursday, said Bangladesh Merchant Marine Officers
Association BMMOA General Secretary Marine Engineer Md. Sakhawat Hossain on
Wednesday night.
He said the transfer of Hadisur's body from Ukraine to Romania
was delayed due to the absence of concerned officials. But all preparations
have been completed on Wednesday. On Thursday (March 10) morning, a freezer van
carrying the body of Hadisur will leave Ukraine and reach Bucharest via
Moldova.
The ship 'Banglar Samriddhi' owned by Bangladesh Shipping
Corporation (BSC) was rented by the Danish company Delta Corporation. The ship
sailed from Mumbai via Turkey to the Ukrainian port of Alvia on February 22. It
was scheduled to leave Alvia for the Italian port of Ravenna on February 24
with cement clay. However, the ship with 29 crew members was stranded at the
port of Alvia due to the Russian invasion in Ukraine.
Hadisur Rahman, the ship's third engineer, was killed in a
rocket attack on March 2. The body of Hadisur and the other 28 sailors were
later rescued in collaboration with an international voluntary organization. On
Saturday (March 5), 28 sailors went to Moldova from a bunker (shelter house)
adjacent to the Ukrainian port of Olvia. They crossed the Ukraine border on
Sunday afternoon and reached Romania via Moldova.
Then on Wednesday (March 9), a flight of Turkish Air
carrying 28 sailors landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
