Italy has indicated interest in bringing in additional labor from Bangladesh, especially for the country's tourism and agricultural industries.

On Monday, three Italian ministers met with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) headquarters in the Italian capital Rome as part of the UN Food Systems Summit.

Francesco Lollobrigida is the minister of agriculture, Matteo Piantedosi is the minister of the interior, and Carlo Nordio is the minister of justice.

The ministers assured the Bangladeshi prime minister that Italy will boost employment in its tourist and agricultural industries by legal ways, according to AK Abdul Momen, the foreign minister of Bangladesh, who addressed the media on the meeting on Monday.

They are worried about this, though, as many illegal workers are being questioned by Italian voters. Therefore, they advised against using undocumented workers.Momen said a "m."

He quoted Prime Minister Hasina as expressing to the Italian ministers that Bangladesh too aims to discourage irregular labor.

She asked the Italian government to legalize the skilled and courteous Bangladeshi immigrants who are already living there, emphasizing that both legally and illegally employed people contribute to the economies of Bangladesh and Italy.

“They (Italy) are very happy that the government of Bangladesh would be supportive for the migration of workers in legal ways,” said Momen.
