Lt Col (retd) Sufiul Anam, a UN representative who was kidnapped by Al Qaeda in Yemen in February 2022, was freed by the National Security Intelligence (NSI), which operates directly under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.  He is in good physical condition.

Al Qaeda kidnapped Lt Col (retd) Sufiul Anam in Yemen 18 months ago.

On Wednesday, he'll probably be transported home and given to his family.

According to UNB, Lt Col (retd) Sufiul Anam, a UN employee, was kidnapped by al-Qaeda on February 11, 2022, in Yemen's Mudiah area, and $3 million was demanded as ransom.

Lt Col (retd) Sufiul Anam thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for saving him and pleaded for prayers from his fellow citizens.

"I'm good, thank you. I have had all medical examinations. I thank Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on behalf of myself and my family, he stated in a video message.

I have no issues. I am really appreciative to NSI," he continued.

He said that the government and NSI had made "so much effort to secure his rescue."
