Malaysian police will soon conduct operations throughout the country to nab illegal immigrants, a top police official has said.

“More than 10 illegal immigrant settlements across Malaysia will be raided very soon,” Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Datuk Seri Ayub Khan Maydin Pitchay said at a Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department program at the Police Training Center (Pulapol) in Kuala Lumpur on Friday (Dec 29).

He said at least 10 other places, like 'Mini Dhaka', a famous Bangla market in Jalan Silang, Kuala Lumpur, have been identified where foreigners have been conducting business illegally.

"We're keeping a close eye on them. Later, the police will execute appropriate operations targeting unauthorized migrant settlements. It is ongoing and will be managed continuously. The identified areas include Klang Valley, Jahur, Kedah, and Kelantan,” the DIG said.

The police will now focus on areas controlled by foreigners, and coordinated actions will be performed regularly to prevent the infiltration of these foreign nationals, he said.

"People must understand that we (at immigration detention centers) face recruitment constraints at times. However, we will continue to carefully plan (operations) to suppress these illegal immigrants.”

In the current month, a mega campaign was conducted in 'Mini Dhaka', with 1,101 immigrants including several Bangladeshis were arrested in that operation.
