Malaysian authorities arrested 108 undocumented workers, which included seven individuals from Bangladesh, on January 27.

These individuals lacked proper legal documentation and were detained at Malaysia's Selayang wholesale market.

The city police chief, Allaudeen Abdul Majid, stated that the operation, conducted in collaboration with other agencies, such as the Immigration Department, aimed to address various criminal activities in the Selayang market area in Kuala Lumpur, particularly those involving illegal immigrants.

Among the arrested, 52 were Indonesians, and four were women, with charges primarily related to the absence of valid travel documents and overstaying.

He stated, "The police, in collaboration with other departments and agencies, will persist in carrying out future special operations of this nature."

Malaysia stands as a sought-after destination for Bangladeshis seeking employment abroad. Additionally, it ranks among the significant sources of remittances for Bangladesh.

In the preceding year, Malaysia approved the recruitment of approximately 300,000 Bangladeshi workers to address the demand for 1 million new workers. By March, around 120,000 workers from this allocation had already arrived in Malaysia.
