BNP MP Harunur Rashid gets 5yrs jail in tax-evasion case

A Dhaka court has sentenced three people, including BNP member of parliament M Harunur Rashid, to different term imprisonment in a tax-evasion case.

Dhaka Special Court Judge Sheikh Nazmul Alam passed the verdict on Monday.

The court sentenced Harunur to five years imprisonment and fined him Tk50 lakh, in default, he will have to serve extra six months in jail.

The court also sentenced two other convicts - private television channel NTV Managing Director Mohammad Enayetur Rahim and owner of a car showroom named Sky Auto Ishtiaq Sadek- to two years and three years jail respectively.

Rahim was also fined Tk1 lakh, in default, he will have to serve extra two months in jail while Sadek was filed Tk40 lakh, in default, he will have to serve extra six months in jail.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case against the trio for evading tax while purchasing cars in 2007.
