Sayeed Khokon Inducted into AL Central Committee

Outgoing Mayor of Dhaka South City, Sayeed Khokon was declared a member of the Central Working Committee of the Awami League.

Party leader Sheikh Hasina introduced him into the panel with the authority given to her last month on the party's National Council, Deputy Secretary Sayem Khan said today.

After he was left out from the mayor race, Khokon had said he accepts the decision, calling the party president and Prime Minister Hasina as his guardian in the absence of his father, the late Dhaka mayor Mohammad Hanif.

Following the bifurcation of the Dhaka City Corporation, Khokon was elected as the Dhaka South mayor in the 2015 polls.

He had sought the ruling party’s ticket for re-election, but the ruling Awami League chose Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh.
