Denial of March 7 Tantamount to Denial of Independence: Quader

Awami League Secretary-General and Minister of Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader said Saturday the rejection of Bangabandhu's historic March 7 speech is tantamount to refusing independence.

“Those who deny March 7 speech, they actually disavow the country’s independence,” he said.

After paying tributes to Bangabandhu Nation Father Sheik Mujibur Rahman marking the anniversary of his historic March 7 Address, the minister spoke with journalists.

He paid homage to the Father of the Nation's memory by planting a wreath at his portrait on the grounds of the Bangabandhu Museum in the capital, Dhanmondi.

Mentioning March 7 as a very significant day for the Bangalee people, Quader said in a true sense that Bangabandhu had declared independence for the country via his landmark address on March 7 at a gigantic rally in the city's then ' Race Course Maidan, ' now Suhrawardy Udyan.

The fiery speech by Bangabandhu encouraged the liberation-loving Bangalees to fight a determined battle against the forces of the then invasion of Pakistan, he said.

The minister said Bangabandhu’s assassins and perpetrators of August 15 carnage, who grasped the state power after the massacre, had banned the playing of the landmark speech but UNESCO recognized the fiery speech as a part of the world’s documentary heritage.
