Govt to Bring Back Fugitive Killers of Aug 21: Quader

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said Friday that the perpetrators of the August 21, 2004 grenade attacks, including Tarique Rahman, would be brought home to give the verdicts of the verdicts.

"After the conclusion of the court proceedings, the August 21 killers who are remaining abroad, in particular Tarique Rahman, will be taken back home as the August 15 (1975) killers," he said in a virtual discussion marking the 16th anniversary of the August 21 grenade attacks in the Bangabandhu Avenue central office of AL, reports BSS.

Prime Minister and leader of the Awami League Sheikh Hasina presided over the discussion at a videoconference from her official residence in Ganabhaban.

Describing it as 'very cruel,' Quader said that the trial of those who carried out grenade attacks aimed at assassinating Bangabandhu's father and then opposition leader Sheik Hasina had begun on the initiative of the Prime Minister.

The court has handed down historic verdicts in the cases brought against the grenade attacks, and the Supreme Court is pending an appeal, he said.
