AL Starts Selling Nomination Forms Today

The Ruling Awami League is beginning to sell its party nomination forms for the third phase of the elections to 64 municipalities from today.

Nomination forms will be distributed at the political office of Awami League President Shiekh Hasina in Dhanmondi from Sunday to Thursday. The forms will be available every day from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.,' said a party statement signed by Biplob Barua, its office secretary, reports media.

The aspirants have been asked to collect the nomination forms within the stipulated time.

It has been stated that the candidates previously proposed in the resolution signed by the presidents and general secretaries of the district concerned, Upazila and the Bangladesh Awami League Municipalities will be entitled to purchase nomination forms in accordance with the party constitution.

Nomination seekers must abide by the health rules and avoid any collection of forms from the Party Office, and each candidate must have a photocopy of his/her National Identification Card (NID) when collecting the form, with the release attached.

On 14 December, the Election Commission declared the polling schedule for the third phase of the elections to 64 municipalities of different districts by fixing the voting day on 30 January.

According to the schedule, the deadline for submission of nomination papers is 31 December, while the date for review of the nomination papers is 3 January and the last date for withdrawal of the nomination papers is 30 January.

The EC previously declared the timetable for the first and second phases of the municipal elections to 25 municipalities on 28 December and 61 municipalities on 16 January.
