Quader Urges AL Men to Abide By Party Disciplines, Rules

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today called upon the AL leaders and workers to abide by the party discipline and rules in doing politics.

"Organizational steps will be taken if anyone is found to be involved in wrongdoing by using party identity," he said at the opening meeting of the AL Women's Affairs Sub-Committee of the Dhanmondi Party President's Political Office, reports BSS.

He joined it through a videoconferencing from his official residence on parliament premises.

Mentioning that a person cannot be appointed to more than one party committee, Quader said on Friday that if anyone holds a position in any of the associate bodies, he or she would have to resign from the previous position in order to have a new position in any committee.

He said the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was a woman-friendly government after the post-1975 period.

The government has taken a tougher stance against violence against women in the recent period, he said, adding that the AL door will remain closed to those who will be involved in repression against women.

The Minister urged everyone to come forward with all kinds of women-friendly programs for the improvement of the country.

Turning to local government polls, Quader said the party will take actions against those who will be rebel candidates against party-nominated contestants in local polls.

Actions will also be taken against those who will patronize or incite the rebel candidates, he added.

The AL general secretary said BNP leaders are spreading ‘shameless’ falsehood over the results of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) polls.

If BNP creates an election atmosphere without making evil attempts to make the polls questionable, there could be a possibility for that party to become an AL opponent, he said.

Nominally joining the polls, Quader said, BNP has resorted to the path of terrorism to undermine the peaceful electoral atmosphere.

About BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's allegation of kicking BNP agents out of polling centers, Quader said that where there is no BNP agent in polling centers, the allegation of kicking off their agents is absurd and baseless.

As leader of the registered political party of the Election Commission (EC), Mirza Fakhrul's irresponsible comments on the EC are devoid of decorum.

Earlier, AL women affairs sub-committee leaders paid homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing wreath at his portrait at Dhanmondi road number 32 here.
