After
casting his vote in Cumilla City Corporation (CCC) polls, Cumilla-6
constituency's MP AKM Bahauddin Bahar said to the media that, the language Election
Commission (EC) used in the letter seemed very unpleasant. The EC has no jurisdiction
to direct me to leave my constituency.
He
made the remarks in response to a question from reporters after voting at the
Victoria Collegiate School Center on Wednesday (June 15) at around 11:30 am.
Regarding
the EC's letter to leave the constituency for allegedly violating the code of
conduct, Bahar said that the letter was a mistake by the Chief Election Commissioner
(CEC). CEC officials cannot defame a Member of Parliament in this way. The
letter that has been given to me is not in the law made by the members of
parliament, it is in the law of the Election Commission. I have filed a writ
petition in the High Court. I will also speak in Parliament. I will change it.
In
the context of the CCC election, he said, some of the administration's most
enthusiastic officials are not allowing voters to vote with voter ID cards.
They are asking to bring the slip. What a slip again! I am a voter, my ID card is
my identity. However, the election situation is very calm.
He
added that voting was taking place in a festive atmosphere. There is no
disturbance anywhere. My request to the law enforcement agencies is to ensure
that the voters can cast their votes in a fair environment.
It
may be mentioned that on the evening of June 8, the Election Commission
directed the Member of Parliament AQM Bahauddin Bahar to leave the constituency
for violating the Electoral Code of Conduct.
