BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has alleged that the government has continued to crack down on opposition leaders and activists by disappearances, arrests, false cases, and extrajudicial killings, reports media.

In a statement on Sunday, Mirza Fakhrul said, “The ruling Awami League is afraid of unknown fear all the time. Therefore, they (government) continued to commit atrocities such as disappearance, arrest, false charges and extrajudicial killings against opposition leaders and activists, including BNP and its affiliates and allied organizations.”

Such cruel and reckless activities are still being carried out to destroy the Opposition with the help of the state, he said.

Fakhrul said on Saturday, former Ishwardi unit BNP general secretary Zakaria Pintu was picked up by some people who introduced themselves as members of law enforcement agencies from Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar district.

“The whereabouts of Zakaria Pintu is yet unknown. This is another inhumane work of the Awami League government. The government is worried about how to save its power after holding the midnight election.”

The BNP secretary said it is not possible to establish a neo-Baksal system without eliminating the Opposition party. They are eliminating the leaders and activists of opposition parties as part of this plan, he said.
