In
protest against the announcement of the suspension of the Gaibandha-5 seat
by-election, supporters of boat markers lit a fire in Phulchari Upazila
Parishad premises. The protest demanded the resignation and trial of the Chief
Election Commissioner (CEC).
Today
Wednesday (October 12) afternoon, the Chief Election Commissioner announced the
suspension of the Gaibandha-5 seat by-election by alleging various
irregularities.
Meanwhile, the Phulchhari Upazila Parishad headquarters premises became agitated after the announcement of the closure of the elections.
Phulchhari
Upazila Awami League President and Upazila Parishad Chairman GM Salim Parvez
led the protest program by closing the main gate of Phulchhari Upazila
Headquarters square.
Hundreds of leaders and activists of Awami League, including Jubo League-Chatra League, participated in the protest.
Former
general secretary of Gaibandha District Volunteer League Golam Shahid Ranju,
Awami League leader Shahidul Islam and others spoke in the protest.
