BNP to hold ‘mourning rallies’ in Dhaka and across the country today

BNP is set to hold nationwide “mourning rallies,” including in Dhaka, today, protesting the killing of a Krishak Dal leader in Laxmipur on Tuesday during the party’s road march. Party said, today’s rallies are also meant for registering the party’s protest against attacks on the road marches brought out by the party and its alliance partners on Tuesday (20 July).

Leaders and activists of BNP and its associate bodies will bring out a mourning rally in front of the party’s Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka at 3 pm.

In this regard, BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas announced the programme while concluding the second-day’s march from Uttara’s Abdullahpur towards Jatrabari in the capital on Wednesday.

Later, at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office, BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said the mourning rallies will be brought out in all metropolitan cities and district towns.

He said, in Dhaka, they will bring out a mourning rally from Nayapaltan at 3pm and wil hope to end at Moghbazar after going through Shantinagar, Malibagh and Mouchak.

Besides, he said their party leaders and activists will give out leaflets among Muslim devotees in mosques across the country after Juma prayers on Friday, to press home their one-point demand, including the resignation of the government.

As part of their one-point movement, BNP staged countrywide marches, including in the capital, on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Earlier the party’s march on Tuesday was marked by violent clashes with police and Awami League activists in different parts of the country, leaving at least one man dead and several hundred people injured.

BNP's march also came under attack near Mirpur Govt Bangla college on the same day in the capital.

On July 12, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir formally announced a ‘one-point’ movement with the goal to remove Awami League from power and hold the upcoming national election under a “neutral” government.
