BNP’s Youth Rally: Thousands Suffering Due to Traffic Congestion

In anticipation of the BNP youth march today (July 22), police put up a checkpoint near the Aminbazar entry to Dhaka, resulting in a significant traffic backup that extends past Baliarpur on the Dhaka-Aricha highway since the morning. 

Numerous commuters heading to work are inconvenienced by traffic. One of them, Md. Jasim, claimed that he boarded the bus at 6 am from the Kalampur neighborhood of Dhamrai and traveled for more than an hour between Boliarpur and Salehpur. 

"I ended up getting off the bus and now trying to go as far as I can on foot," he said.

Ibrahim, another office-goer from Manikganj, echoed the same. "This seems like unnecessary harassment to me," he said.  

District police officers were observed examining vehicles traveling into Dhaka at the Aminbazar checkpoint by erecting a roadblock on the road. They were interrogating the travelers, particularly those arriving by microbus, and verifying the paperwork for the vehicles.

Additional safety precautions, according to Savar Model police station officer-in-charge Deepak Chandra Saha, have been implemented to stop anyone from entering Dhaka to spread chaos.

"The checking of vehicle documents is part of the traffic department's regular checkup," he added. 

When asked about the sufferings of people due to the congestion caused by the checkpost, Deepak said, "There are no traffic jam. The vehicular movement is just slower due to the checkpost."

To entice young voters to join the party's ongoing campaign to restore democracy, three wings of the BNP made the announcement that they will conduct a youth rally in each of the six regions of the nation.

On Saturday, there will be a rally in Dhaka. It has already taken place in the divisions of Chattogram, Rajshahi, and Rangpur.
