Gayeshwar Chandra Roy Released from Police Custody

Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, a member of the BNP Standing Committee, has been freed from police custody after being detained during a Saturday altercation in Matuail, Dhaka, between law enforcement and party activists.

Detective Branch Chief of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Md. Harun Or Rashid, stated that he was being taken to the DB headquarters on Minto Road by police in order to "protect him" and that a police car was transporting him to his residence.  

According to a number of BNP leaders, Gayeshwar was abandoned by the police at the party's Naya Paltan headquarters.

A clash broke out earlier in the day between police officers and BNP members and activists in Matuail earlier in the day, which left Gayeshwar injured.

Soon after, police picked him up in a car and took him to the DB headquarters.
