Tarique-Zobaida has been given a normal verdict: Information Minister

Information Minister and Awami League Joint General Secretary Dr. Hasan Mahmud said, "The trial verdict of Tarique Rahman and his wife Zobayda Rahman for acquiring illegal wealth in the case filed by the caretaker government has been done in the normal process."

He said, "our government has not filed this case. The case was filed by the BNP's preferred caretaker government. If our government was vindictive then we would have filed a case, and we would not have had to wait 14 years for the verdict, the verdict would have been done much earlier.'

He said all this during an exchange of views with journalists at the secretariat on Thursday (3 August) afternoon. 

He said, BNP held a press conference with the verdict. They have programs today and tomorrow too. But this case did not happen during our government. This case happened during the previous caretaker government when Yazuddin Sahib was made President by Begum Khaleda Zia. And Fakhruddin Saheb, working in the World Bank, was made the chief advisor of the caretaker government and the army chief of the army-backed government. When people of their choice were in power, this case was filed, they were punished in that case.

In response to BNP's adverse comment on the verdict, the minister also said, "BNP has no faith in anything, law and court, they don't care about anything, they only go to foreigners every now and then."

He added, we don't go to foreigners, foreigners come to us when they need it.' In response to a question about trying to bring Tariq Rahman back to the country, the minister said, 'We are in discussion with the UK government.'

Regarding the Prime Minister's public meeting in Rangpur on Wednesday, the Broadcasting Minister said, "People's leader Sheikh Hasina's public meeting in the true sense took the form of a huge public sea of remembrance." This proves how much the people of the country love Sheikh Hasina, it proves that the people of the country have trust, faith and support on the leader Sheikh Hasina and her government.

He said, "We called for a public meeting at the district school ground in Rangpur city, but practically the entire city of Rangpur turned into a public meeting place." Millions of people including 96-year-old Bhasha Sainik freedom fighters was present, also old women joined there. outside the ground. There were at least 10 times more people than the four-to-five-kilometer rally.
